Dalai Lama Receives mahatma Gandhi Award for Peace and Reconciliation

Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama was presented the Mahatma Gandhi International Award for Peace and Reconciliation on January 4, 2012 on the fourth day of the ten-day Kalchakra initiations in Bodh Gaya. The grand daughter of Mahatma Gandhi Ila Gandhi, presented the award to him.

Ila Gandhi, who is based in South Africa, is Chairperson of the Gandhi Development Trust that gives the award. The previous recipients of this award include Myanmar's Aung San Suu Kyi, South Africa's Nelson Mandela and Tanzania's Julius Nyerere.
